Where did the
inspiration for this blog come from?
Although I’ve loved to write since I was a kid, I was never
much into the idea of blogging. I never
thought I had anything worth writing about.
I mean, who would want to read the ramblings of a 17-year-old social
outsider living in the middle of nowhere?
There are millions and millions of bloggers out there. But then my cousin began blogging, and I saw
how many genuinely-interested readers he was getting. I began to think that maybe blogging would be
something worth doing. And even if I
only had a couple regular readers, then at least I could count it as practice
and an exercise in writing.
But first I had to decide what to write about, which wasn’t
easy at first. Of course I had plenty of
ideas, but all of them were overused, subjects of many blogs already on the
web. Who wanted to read another cooking
blog or photography blog? Even a writing
blog didn’t seem all that fresh and exciting.
Plus, I wanted to write about something that held meaning, something that
might help in some small way.
Then one evening I was proofreading an essay I had written a
long time ago about my conversion when it suddenly came to me: maybe I could
put together a blog based on my conversion.
Islam is a heated subject in the world of today and was certain to provide
plenty of topics. Better yet, Islam was
something I was very passionate about. And
so began The Story of a Muslim Convert.
What is the mission
and purpose of this blog?
When I first started blogging, I didn’t really have a clear
idea what exactly the purpose of the blog would be. At first, I tried to concentrate on my
experiences as a convert/revert to Islam.
But, I knew I would quickly run out of things to write about. Then I thought maybe I could throw in a bit
of basic knowledge about Islam. And then
as I started becoming more interested in world events, especially those
concerning the Muslim Ummah, I decided to begin writing about those events and
my opinion on them. I originally thought
I would come up with a clear mission and purpose for my blog as time went on,
but the opposite happened.
However, there is a root purpose for The Story of a Muslim
Convert and that is to inform about the ‘true Islam,’ not the Islam that is
wrongfully portrayed in Western media, not the Islam that extremists make it
seem. I know I probably won’t make an
impact on the rampant anti-Islam of today, but maybe someone will see it and
inshaAllah will begin to see the truth.
What is the target
audience of this blog?
As there isn’t a clear, set mission and purpose, I’m not
writing for a clear, set audience.
Basically, I write for everyone, both Muslim and non-Muslim alike. Some posts are written with Muslims in mind,
others are written with non-Muslims in mind, and the rest are written for
everyone.
What topics are
covered?
I have written and will write about a variety of
topics. However, I find I tend to
concentrate on three topics: the basics of Islam, my experiences as a
convert/revert, and anti-Islam in the West including current events in the
news.
How often is the blog
updated?
I don’t plan on having a set schedule on when to post
something. InshaAllah when I come up
with a good topic to write and have the time in which to write something (and
have the motivation to do so!), then I’ll post it. My hope is to post something at least once or
twice a week, but we’ll just have to see what happens!
